Cassava, introduced in Uganda between 1862 and 1875, is currently one of the most important staple food crops in the country. Approximately 3.5 million tonnes have been produced. In Uganda, cassava is a food security crop, with some cash sales. Processing in Uganda is mainly limited to fermented sun-dried chips for making cassava flour, a popular product traded extensively both within Uganda and to neighbouring countries.
